Stories behind the scenes...
This photo was taken when my good friend Jen and I ventured into the Himilayas on a pilgrimage to the source of the Ganges in India.
We arrived in Gangotri in the off-season as we had just finished a month long yoga retreat with Clive Sheridan in Rishikesh.
Time was of the essence. The weather was closing in. After the third day of waiting in the village, we got a sunny day and went for it.
Totally unprepared, with Tiger biscuits and sneakers, we set off into the mountains. By the afternoon, it was snowing, and visibility was bad. The goat tracks we were following were disappearing rapidly. It wasn't looking good.
As the day passed and the light became less, we were still aimlessly trudging through snow. We were heading for the weather station, where we could stay and explore from there.
Fortunately, on dark, we made it!
There were 3 weather men and 1 Sandhu (holy man), who appeared in his red loin cloth and gumboots every now and then.
We ended up sleeping in the wood shed, rats running around our heads all night,
but we were warm and fed!
The snow didn't stop, and we were stuck for 3 days!
We made it to the source, just, and what an adventure it was! 💖
