Stories behind the scenes…
What’s on your mind?
I love seeing this question on Facebook when I’m in the mood to write, which is not that often!
At this time, with so many amazing things going on right now, I can tell you, there is a whole lot on my mind.
First of all I’d like to acknowledge that it’s much easier to be consistently present on social media platforms when feeling inspired and having lots to share. As we know, this is not always the case, when stuck on the treadmill…day in, day out.
I feel very blessed and appreciate every opportunity I have to travel. To be able to incorporate teaching yoga retreats worldwide, I get to do the two things I love.
I admit, I am a restless spirit, and those of you who know me well can confirm this without a doubt. Actually, you probably get sick of me always talking about getting back on the road when I’m in a place for too long.
The last time I was in India was 20 years ago, and a whole lot has changed since then. Pre family times, traveling on the smell of an oily rag was the way to go, the more challenging, the better!
I am fortunate enough to have a choice now, but I always like to go basic and simple, as for me, this when the real adventure begins.
The past few days, especially, has been a valuable reminder of how precious living a simple life can be.
Staying with a Ladakhi family and embracing their ways, eating their traditional food, which was always rice, momos, thukpa (noodle soup), Ladakhi bread and of course masala chai. There was no bathroom, so bathing, washing clothes and teeth were done in the river, which was fortunately clean! The toilet was a long drop outside with no paper or water. Don’t ask how that worked! We still haven’t figured it out.
There were no mirrors and no wifi, so our days were spent wandering through the mountains, visiting monasteries, doing yoga, meditating, sitting by the river, reading and connecting.
Sadly, these are the simple things we miss when we get too caught up in the chaos of life, the world. We start to expect things to be a certain way, and if they aren’t, watch out.
We forget to appreciate how lucky we are with what we have, which is often a lot more than many!
We begin to lose our purpose of why we are doing what we are doing, and is it all going to be worth it in the end?
This a sweet reminder to re-awaken what is really important to you.
Ask yourself this, “In the end, what would I have done differently?”
